Mastering Better Days

Hello and Happy Holidays to all our wonderful friends and fans!
It’s been a while since our last update on the status of Better Days, so we’re excited to tell you that we’ve reached a major milestone in its production.
After countless long nights working on the mixes with Andrew Spindor at The Habitat Recording Studios, we finally signed off on the final versions of the songs a few weeks ago. Since then we have been looking for the perfect person to master Better Days, and we’re happy to announce that the extraordinary Scott Hull will be the guy! His credits include many Grammy-winning albums, and he's worked with many of the biggest names in music including Steely Dan, John Mayer, Sting, Herbie Hancock, and too many others to list here. Needless to say, we’re thrilled to have him working on our album! You can read more about Scott and his impressive list of credentials here: http://www.scotthullmastering.com/
Those unfamiliar with music production might be wondering, what exactly is this “mastering” thing Mr. Hull is putting our album through? Well, here’s the man himself explaining the process:

Getting the album to this point has been a long haul, and we appreciate the patience you’ve had as the production schedule has stretched beyond our initial estimates. We’re currently anticipating a spring 2015 release with shows in Vancouver and Powell River, and more shows to follow across Canada in the summer.
We thank you for your continued support and cannot wait for you to hear this!
Happy New Year!

Late Nights, Early Mornings

We've been spending some late nights this month with Andrew Spindor at Habitat Studios chiselling Better Days into its final form. Although this album has ended up taking more time than we first planned for, seeing the faint light ahead at the far end of the tunnel makes it clear that the extra effort has been well worth it.

If you're taking part in the Rock N Roll Vancouver Half-Marathon this weekend, keep your eyes and ears open for us playing next to the route near the aquarium!

How to make an album.

Album Progress Update

Just a little note to let you know that we've been in the studio making adjustments to the sound of the album and getting all the details just the way we want them. We are bursting with excitement. Projected release date is currently sitting at early 2015.  Thanks for being patient with us. In the meantime, fulfillment of some Indiegogo perks will soon be underway.

THANK YOU!

We did it! YOU did it!

We've been absolutely floored by the support we've received in reaching (and exceeding!) our crowdfunding goal on Indiegogo. Thanks to you, we are moving ahead with the production of Better Days.

We'll be keeping all of you in mind as we finish crafting this new album, and we can’t wait for you experience this music that you have helped create.

Thank you for contributing. Thank you for spreading the word. Thank you for believing in us. You all rock, and so will this album.

Love,

No Island

Tête-a-tête with No Island

Jay might be the fashionable one in the band, but it was Andy and Keith who sat down with Carlo Javier from Young & Only (a super awesome fashion-culture blog in Vancouver) earlier this month to share a few tour stories, chat about our new album, and fantasize about being Katy Perry's opening act. Check it out here! It's a fun read.

Better Days Ahead

With only 9 days remaining in our campaign we’re sure you must be wondering what we’ve been doing with your contributions so far and what will happen when the pre-order ends. We’re going to fill you in with some long-awaited updates about the album's progress, starting with its name: Better Days.

That's right folks, we’ve named the album, and you can look forward to Better Days ahead!

Thanks to your awesome support, we were able to finish tracking the album with Andrew Spindor & Will Watson last week at Habitat Studios in Langley, BC. The unmixed songs already sound absolutely incredible and we can't wait for you to hear the final product!

So when will that be?
Well, the $5000 you've helped us raise so far has taken us halfway there by covering most of the studio costs, but we still have another $5000 to go in order to finish up including mixing, mastering, and printing. If our goal is met by midnight on June 15th, our estimated release date remains Fall 2014. This is the dramatic push to the finish line!

Wait, that adds up to $10000. Isn't the goal $8000?
Yes. Our projected total budget was always $10000, but we opted for a slightly more attainable crowdfunding goal to cover the most immediate recording costs. We’ve got a few plans up our sleeve to cover the rest. However, if things go super well, Indiegogo campaigns can be funded to over 100%!

I've already contributed, but how else can I help you meet your goal in time?
We can only shout from our own rooftops so much. What really helps is having other people share our campaign with friends, fellow music fans, and every social network they use. To someone unfamiliar with No Island, a word-of-mouth endorsement from a supporter like you is far more powerful than us trying to convince them about our own band. For an easy-to-remember link, simply direct people to noisland.com

Is there really no limit to what song I can make you do for the YouTube cover perk?
So far we've had some pretty ridiculous stuff thrown our way, but if there's a limit we haven't seen it yet.

When will the perks be ready?
Realistically, we'll be able to start working on the YouTube covers and other perks once the album is released. We want to be able to do a quality job for you and not rush these. Trust us, this way will be much more satisfying in the end.

This seems more like a FAQ list than an update.
You're right, sorry. Here's the tracklist for the album!

Thanks again for all your support so far, and don't forget to share!
Love,
- No Island

Big, big news.

Fans, friends, family: we have BIG news for you. No Island is about to undertake our largest, most ambitious project to date. After over a year of preparation, we are finally ready to bring our long-awaited full-length studio album to life in all its glory. It will be monstrous, it will be uncompromising. A new chapter in No Island’s story is about to begin, and we want you to be a part of it with us.

We have new songs written and studio time booked, but there is one final hurdle to overcome before we meet you at the finish line. As an independent band without a record label backing us up, we are calling on you to help us make this album by taking part in our pre-order campaign on Indiegogo and spreading the word to your friends. We are eager to return the favour with a slew of tantalizing incentives that go far beyond an awesome new CD and the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that you helped make this music possible.

Please take a moment to view our short video, check out what we’re offering, and most importantly to SHARE THIS LINK far and wide with everyone who loves cool music.

All of our love,
No Island

Next Round!

A very sincere "thank you" to everyone who came out to our acoustic show at The Sin Bin last night. You made us a very happy band. We made the cut for the next round of their battle-of-the-bands, so there'll be another unplugged set coming up in early February (date TBA soon).

We're not usually comfortable with asking people to come out and vote to help us win stuff, but if you do feel like coming to a fun show and lending us some support, you can feel extra good knowing that doing so is actively helping us get closer to our goal of snagging one of the prizes that will help us make our next album. And if that doesn't quite work out at the end of the day, at least we had fun in the process.

So thanks again, and maybe see you at the next one!

Special Acoustic Show! (Jan 14)

We couldn't be happier about the response our new songs received at the Railway Club on Saturday. The fact that we got to debut them among such talented company only made the night better. Thank you everyone who attended, and to all the other bands for being such class acts. You all made us question why we waited so long to play another show.

Speaking of another show, we have a new one on the calender next week, and it's very different from our usual fare. We're stripping down and doing an acoustic set Tuesday January 14th at The Sin Bin (2nd ave in Vancouver, between the Olympic Village and the Cambie St Bridge) as part of a battle-of-the-bands show. The show starts at 9pm, and there's no cover for you (just a couple of covers that we'll be playing). We would love to hang out with you before/after our set and have a beer. Also, your cheers of encouragement might help us win a prize that would go a long way towards helping us produce our new album. Click here for the Facebook event page.

See you around soon!
